Virginia Coney Island has been serving coney dogs and comfort food in Jackson, Michigan for over 100 years. Known for its hearty, meat-packed coney sauce, it’s a local favorite and a staple of the city’s food history. The Christoff family has deep roots in Jackson’s coney story. Ted Christoff’s grandfather helped open Jacksons first coney restaurant in 1914. Over the years, Virginia Coney Island has had several dedicated owners, including Christoff family members Van Christoff (with partner Tom Ratchford), Craig Christoff, and others, along with Eli “Muggsy” Potter, who later passed it to Erin and Joe Mathews. In January 2025, Ted and Pam Christoff became the new owners. While making updates like new floors and better lighting, they’re keeping the menu and classic diner feel the same and preserving a tradition built on great food, friendly service, and community.
